SHOULDER BURSITIS, DECOMPRESSION SURGERY

Shoulder decompression surgery is a surgical procedure that is typically performed to treat shoulder bursitis, a condition in which the bursa, a small fluid-filled sac that helps reduce friction between the bones, tendons, and muscles in the shoulder joint, becomes inflamed.

During the procedure, Dr Singh will make a small incision in the shoulder and use a camera and small instruments to remove any damaged tissue, bone spurs, or other debris that may be causing the inflammation. This will help to relieve pressure on the bursa and reduce inflammation.

After the surgery, you will typically need to wear a sling or immobiliser for a period of time to allow the shoulder to heal properly. Physiotherapy may also be necessary to help regain strength and mobility in the shoulder.

Like any surgery, shoulder decompression surgery does carry some risks, including infection, bleeding, and damage to nerves or blood vessels in the shoulder. You may also experience some pain, swelling, or stiffness in the shoulder after the surgery, which can typically be managed with pain medications and physiotherapy.

Recovery time will vary depending on the extent of the surgery, and your overall health and fitness level. In general, it may take several weeks to several months for the shoulder to fully heal and for you to regain full strength and mobility. During this time, it is important to follow Dr Singh’s post-operative instructions carefully, including any physio or rehabilitation programs, to ensure the best outcome possible.
